My wife and I have been dog-sick all day. I am thinking it’s food poisoning, just because it came on so quickly and we both got sick at almost exactly the same time, but some people seem to think it sounds more like a stomach virus. We did pork chops last night. Probably a bad move. This morning was an all-out barf fest. We were both running fevers, but mine seems to have abated. My wife is still pretty bad off. Her sisters have been amazing, though. We weren’t really prepared for a sick day, but they brought us Sprites, crackers and Tylenol. Not sure what we would have done without their help.
Of course, I missed out on the WordCamp – which I am pretty bummed about. Also, that $25 registration fee? There’s no getting that back. Damn. It will be a while before I buy pork from Publix again.

It appears that I picked a good time to start feeling better, as I am able to enjoy the shellacking we’re laying on Georgia without having to get up and puke every half-hour. And what a game it is – halftime score is 31-0. I’m so stunned I can’t really process that yet. Now there’s another half of football to be played, so I’m going to tone down the gloating. Final update in a couple of hours.

UPDATE:
41-30 final score. Very cool, but there’s a lot to work on. That third quarter was troubling.

Three minutes to kickoff. I do not expect this one to be a nail-biter this year, but past seasons have taught me that expectations don’t mean dick. I will be glad when this one is in the books and I can enjoy all the other games today.
Ugh. Here we go. Updates to follow.
…
UPDATE:
Well, I forgot to blog halftime, when the score was 35-7. Final score is 49-14. I’ll take it. The running game and the big plays were highlights, but I am a little worried about our tackling. There were a lot of misses. Pass defense and kick return coverage need some work too. Not going to be good enough against Georgia next week.
Still – it’s really hard to argue with an SEC blowout, and on the road at that. A good day so far. We’ll see how the rest of the evening geauxs.

Alabama vs. Western Kentucky. I love this little guy!

The Auburn/Miss. St. game kicks off at the same time — so while I’m on the porch pacing and sipping, I’m sure my wife will be inside screaming and carrying on. Here’s hoping this week’s ‘Bama game will be easier on the ears. Updates to follow. Roll Tide.

HALFTIME UPDATE:
Now this is more like it. Alabama 31, W. Kentucky 7.
…
FINAL: Alabama 41, W. Kentucky 7.
Sounds like a lot of young guys got to see some playing time, too. A good game. Nicely done, fellas. Arkansas next.
…
UPDATE:
Auburn 3, Miss. St. 2. Bizarre. My wife is not pleased.

And there you have it. The final score runs counter to the prevailing feeling of looming disaster that hung over this game. (LA-Monroe, anyone? Who, by the way, almost pulled another SEC upset over Arkansas tonight.) Our defense played extremely well, but our offense needs a lot of work (or else, a lot of luck to stay healthy the entire season). The second half was easier to listen to than the first, but I still wish we could have pulled away a little more. A win is a win, though. Roll Tide Roll.
Next week we play the school with my favorite NCAA mascot – the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

Come on, guys. I just want one blowout. Is that too much to ask?
The schedule only gets tougher after this.

And the verdict is: the same old Alabama. We are playing down to the level of the competition. 4 QB sacks? If our O line plays this way against Georgia (hell, if it plays this way against Miss. St.) we will not stand a chance in the SEC. I know Andre and Marlon are out, but geez guys, step up!! Kudos to our defense, though. I’m trying to be fair toward the backup kicker (a missed FG and extra pt), but it sure would be nice to have any depth at all at some of these positions.
‘Bama 13, Tulane 3

Sacrilege in this day and age, I know — but there is something about listening to a Bama game on the radio, sitting on the front porch with drink in hand, that is very appealing to me. True, I’d rather be there in person or watching it on TV, but this format makes for a relaxing evening. The wife, having already seen her Auburn team win a sloppy game earlier today, has decided she’d rather be shopping than listening to me scream at the radio. So here I sit.
Alabama 7, Tulane 0 early. I’ll post my post-game thoughts later tonight. And now, back to the football. Roll Tide!
