That’s called “putting a positive spin on things.” :-)
But, seriously…. Utah? We’re supposed to be excited about that? It’s going to be Georgia-Hawaii all over again. Why does the SEC get saddled with these pipsqueak opponents? And, the sad thing is, given Bama’s tendency to play to the level of their opponent, it ought to be a close game. Star Jackson next year. We’re going to be unstoppable.
…
ps – that Tebow is a f@#king freak of nature.

Bama wins 36-0… the largest margin of victory since 1962!!! Awesome, guys. Now let’s go win the SEC.

Now it is time to throw the two-year mediocrity monkey off our backs once and for all. For the past two years we have wallowed in the “rebuilding” doldrums, and the jewel in that crown was the L next to Miss. St. on our schedule. It is going to feel very good to dig ourselves out of that embarrassing hole. I mean, we have a well-documented losing streak to Auburn too, but at least for most of those years Auburn has had a fairly good football team. Not so with the Bulldogs.
Furthermore, throughout Mike Shula’s tenure, we had to endure that crybaby Croom’s bitching and moaning about how he wasn’t given a fair shot at the Bama job. Racism, etc. I want to see him slink through the gates of Bryant-Denny with his head hung in shame – thoroughly convinced of his and his team’s ineptitude. I try not to take football personally, but that man is an asshole.
Updates at halftime and pictures at game’s end. Good luck, fellas. Let’s go into the Iron Bowl undefeated.
…
UPDATE:
Halftime score – 12-7 Alabama. Their defense is really putting some pressure on JP. I am not really worried, but I have an inkling of dread that perhaps I should be. The Bulldogs are certainly not backing down. 2nd half will tell the tale. Hopefully we’ll adjust.
…
FINAL UPDATE:
32-7 Nicely done. AU next. Rest up, guys. It isn’t going to be easy.

I cannot wait until this one is over. On paper we should not have any problems. But then, one could have said the same thing about Tulane or Kentucky or Ole Miss. I hope Nick has got these guys focused.
….
UPDATE:
Alabama 13, Tennessee 3 at halftime.
I don’t really have any complaints. We are playing well. We aren’t making many mistakes. Tennessee’s defense is a lot better than I thought it would be. JP is taking a pounding, but we’ve done what we have needed to do. Here’s hoping we don’t hit the 2nd half slump.
…
UPDATE:
Final score – Bama 29, Tenn. 9.
Now that was fun to watch. We finally played a full game. And, of course, it couldn’t happened against a nicer coach. But in all seriousness, Saban has got to be pleased with this one. I feel much, much better about our chances from here on out. Roll Tide Roll. Homecoming next.

Kickoff time. I have no idea what to expect out of this game. Nobody seems to think we will have any problem with the Rebels, even though this is the team that went down to the Swamp and beat Florida a couple of weeks ago. If they play like that today, and we play like we’re looking ahead to Tennessee and LSU, then Ole Miss has a shot at this one. I am concerned… and I will be for pretty much every other game this season.
More at halftime.
…
UPDATE:
Okay, I’m not as concerned now. Aside from that 62-yard run, Mississippi’s offense isn’t getting anything done. A couple of pretty interceptions. And what about putting Terence Cody on the O-line to block for Ingram on a 1 yard TD run? Awesome. That guy is huge.
Bama 24, Ole Miss 3
Back in 30 mins. with some final thoughts.
…
UPDATE:
We cannot continue to do this. If we keep shutting down at halftime we will eventually lose – probably to Tennessee and definitely to LSU. I know that Nick Saban is aware of the problem… now I want to see him fix it. Playing the way we played in the first half, I think we could beat any Div I team. In the second half – well, we got shut out, now didn’t we? Upsetting. Terence Cody getting hurt doesn’t do much for my confidence in the rest of the season. Our depth doesn’t extend too far beyond our starting lineup.
Final score: Bama 24, Ole Miss 20 @#$%!

It is game time. Given our track record of playing down to our opponents, I am more than a little concerned about this one. Kentucky is one of those teams that just begs to be looked past – to our detriment. We had better be prepared for this one.
All that being said, I think Saban has got these players pretty grounded as far as shutting out the expectations and rankings and hype. My father is at the game. I’m off to see if I can spot him in the crowd.
…
UPDATE:
14-0 Bama. An ugly game so far. Lots of penalties.
…
UPDATE:
Final score – Alabama 17, Kentucky 14. We played terribly today. Two missed field goals and a missed extra point. Fumbles. Miscues on defense. Why can’t we snap a team’s neck once we’ve got our foot on it? Aside from the homecoming game, there are not going to be any easy wins.
Still, as they say, a win is a win. Roll Tide. Maybe they’ll learn something from this one.
