Oh, Internet, I Love You

This fine fellow has constructed his own “ultra-large format” camera.  Inspired?  Yes I am.  Direct positive paper?  That comes in size 4×5?  Why, those would fit my own Franken-Conley and omit the need to crop the paper and process the negative!  I expect my package from B&H to be on my desk when I return from Vegas.

I love Emily’s tattoos.

I can relate to this.  Momo doesn’t play fetch.  She retrieves her stick and hides.  Now go find Momo!  (adorable)

Ahhhnooo it’s too cute!!!!!

Really. Cute. Animals.

Ahhhhnooo Ed go help Bob!!!!

Bob and Ed call for help.

Quotations Time: Kick Back & Unwind

Jean Patchett with Ernest Hemingway at his ranch in Cuba (with dogs & cats), photo by Clifford Coffin

There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.

~ Ernest Hemingway

To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life.

~ W. Somerset Maugham, from Books and You

I sat there singing her
Songs in the dark.

She said,
I do not understand
The words.

I said,
There are
No words.

~ Langston Hughes, “Songs”

I have no ambitions and no desires.
To be a poet is not my ambition,
It’s my way of being alone.

~ Fernando Pessoa (as Alberto Caeiro), “The Keeper of Herds”

Things I Want Decided

Which shouldn’t exist
in this world,
the one who forgets
or the one
who is forgotten?

Which is better,
to love
one who has died
or not to see
each other when you are alive?

Which is better,
the distant lover
you long for
or the one you see daily
without desire?

Which is the least unreliable
among fickle things –
the swift rapids,
a flowing river,
or this human world?

~ Izumi Shikibu, from The Ink Dark Moon

I usually solve problems by letting them devour me.

~ Franz Kafka, from a letter to Max Brod

The first man to compare the cheeks of a young woman to a rose was obviously a poet; the first to repeat it was possibly an idiot.

~ Salvador Dalí

You should bring something into the world that wasn’t in the world before. It doesn’t matter what that is. It doesn’t matter if it’s a table or a film or gardening — everyone should create. You should do something, then sit back and say, ‘I did that.’

~ Ricky Gervais

God was my co-pilot but we crashed in the mountains and eventually I had to eat him.

~ Gary Isaacs

Life is a gentleman’s agreement to grin and paint your face gay so others will feel they are silly to be unhappy, and try to catch the contagion of joy, while inside so many are dying of bitterness and unfulfillment.

~ Sylvia Plath
